no greek god is inherently and wholly “good” or “bad” because they were all flawed and imperfect in some way with different facets of personality and character to serve as a reflection of society and human nature itself
oh except for zeus he was a straight up absolute bastard
So I used to have a Russian friend who had a pretty thick accent and like a lot of Russians tended to eschew articles. She would say things like “Get in car.” And stuff.
Well one day this asshole who had been kind of tagging along with us asks her why she talks like that because it makes her sound dumb and I still remember her response word for word.
“Me? Dumb? Maybe in America you have to say get in THE car because you are so stupid that people might just get in random car, but in Russia we don’t need to say that. We just fucking know because we are not stupid.”
One time I was proof reading a paper for a Russian student. As I was correcting her paper with her, the many mistakes in her grammar started weighing on her. I asked her what was wrong, and she said, almost sobbing,
“In Russian I am so intelligent and clear. In English I am like [an] idiot”
Respect to anyone trying to master a foreign language. I get so sad thinking about that student.
Full offense but people who make fun of someone else’s accent or belittle their limited vocabulary when they’re speaking a language not native to them are fucking disgusting and are just begging to be punched.
They’re speaking your language because you don’t know theirs. That’s not something they should be made fun of, it’s something that should be commended because learning a language is hard fucking work.
“We regularly ask teenage girls to read books in which characters degrade women, expecting them to understand that the book’s other merits outweigh its misogyny. To set such an expectation and not consider its effect on young women is foolish and hypocritical; we rarely expect young men to do the same, and hardy ever expect young white men to read extensively in traditions where their identities aren’t represented or are degraded. We need to reflect on the way the literature we celebrate supports the idea that women who are sexually frustrated create problems for themselves, while men in the same situation create problems for the world. Though the links are subtle, our celebration of a canon of sad white boy literature affects the way we think, and how much tolerance we offer to men like [Alek] Minassian and [Elliot] Rodger.”
Actual love triangles are polyamorus triads and y’all can quote me on that.
You’re also right and should say it.
Yes see this has always bugged me because a triangle implies both ways at all three points
A polyamory triad: a group of three people involved in a mutual relationship involving all three of them. Almost… a triangle of love… if you will.
A polyamory V or “hinge”: Person x has two partners Y and Z.
Y and Z are aware that X is dating both of them, and are totally down with this arrangement. They are not however interested in each other either sexually or romantically, but may be good friends through their association to X.
Not polyamory:
Two people competing for the affections of one person, who is attracted to both of them but can only choose one. Usually accompanied by unparalleled drama and hurt. So more like a Y really.
As in Y is this toxic shit so God damn prevalent in romance and YA fic, urgh.
Personally, I’m really excited in the research being done in literary polyamory, esp by the likes of Joy and other queer romance authors, and hope that the romantic hypercube may become a reality in my lifetime.
Behold, the romantic hypercube
16 people who are each dating four other people within the group
1. Thank you for creating this.
2. Thank you also for including nearly every name of my seventh-grade class becuase honestly this feels like a fairly accurate representation of what the dating scene was like back then.
I’m afraid you’re going to have to be more specific cause I have nae idea what you’re talking about?
I swear I remember you posting alternatives to nail polish for sealing something after painting it or something like that.
Hmmmm… that might have been something I was talking about with @cocomerecreations or something I even reblogged from @aicosu one of their cosplay tutorials…
If you tell me what you are sealing and how it will be used, I might be able to help someone out?
I think I remember the post, maybe? It was about sealing craft items with clear nail varnish and for the love of dog can we not please, here are some alternatives that age better. I’m pretty sure I reblogged it but obviously my tagging strategy is mostly notable for its complete non existence so naturally I cannot currently get my hands on it.
I’m going to try trawling through old posts. If the snow sets in, head North.
hey what the fuck is this new monstrosity of an error message?????
conditions under which i encountered this message: i answered an ask on mobile, then reblogged it on mobile and added two images (from my phone gallery) to the body of the reblog. went back on desktop because i wanted to add it to my #pop tag, which is where popular posts go. link to post (screwed up on my desktop theme sorry)
UPDATE: I CAN NO LONGER EDIT EVEN TEXT POSTS THAT WERE MADE FROM THE APP WHILE ON DESKTOP??
ALSO AFTER RECEIVING THIS ERROR IT WOULD NOT LET ME SCROLL AWAY FROM THE POST UNTIL I REFRESHED
IS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCING THIS??? WHAT THE HECK
tested it and got the same problem. this is bullshit, how the hell does this even become an issue
alright so PSA apparently now if you make a post on the tumblr app you can only edit it from the tumblr app.
basically, stop using the tumblr app if you ever want to edit your posts, ever! do you like to edit things? update them? want to correct facts you posted at a later time? want to correct a typo without deleting the post? does typing on a tiny screen hurt, so you would rather edit on desktop later? add tags? delete tags? all of these and more are now not possible on desktop if you make the initial post on the tumblr app for who knows why.
this extremely sucks as someone who is not always able to sit in front of a computer for health reasons, as most of my posts are initially made on mobile and then edited later on desktop. cool thanks! great
I just tried this on a fucking DRAFT and you can’t even edit that what the actual fuck
EDIT: after further testing (and evidenced by my reblog), literally all posts are uneditable regardless of where I posted them from. This includes my queue and drafts as well @staff
Well this is some ridiculous bullshit.
@staff it wasn’t broke but apparently some genius fixed it.
People working for Amazon have written to the company’s CEO, Jeff Bezos, to protest the sale of facial recognition tools and other technology to police departments and government agencies.
The workers cite the use of Amazon technology by the US Department of Homeland Security and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, which have been criticised for enforcing Donald Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy, which has seen parents separated from their childrenat the US border.
“As ethically concerned Amazonians, we demand a choice in what we build, and a say in how it is used,” the letter states. “We learn from history, and we understand how IBM’s systems were employed in the 1940s to help Hitler.
“IBM did not take responsibility then, and by the time their role was understood, it was too late.
“We will not let that happen again. The time to act is now.”
Holocaust experts claim IBM’s German subsidiary directly supplied the Nazis with technology which assisted the operation of concentration camps at Auschwitz and Treblinka.
In their letter to Mr Bezos, the Amazon workers said they would “refuse to build the platform” which powers ICE, or any technology used to violate human rights.
Listing three demands, the workers called on the CEO to stop selling the technology to law enforcement, stop providing infrastructure to partners which enable ICE, and implement stronger transparency measures.
“Our company should not be in the surveillance business; we should not be in the policing business; we should not be in the business of supporting those who monitor and oppress marginalized populations,” the letter concludes.
